Encourage plogging

Plogging is litter picking while jogging - it's a great community activity, keeps people active and fit, as well as cleaning up the environment. The council could encourage activities like this by approaching running and walking groups to see if they would organise a 'plog' once a month. It could help by providing them with high-vis vests, bin bags, and litter-pickers and by organising a place for the bags to go once the groups have done a stint. If there are other ways the council can recognise the work people are putting in during their runs, that would be great, but providing those things would encourage people to do it.

Why the contribution is important

It is a simple and cost-effective way to achieve some of your aims and to recognise the power of community. It has a multiple win effect by bringing people together, encouraging fitness and wellbeing, AND tidying up our streets and hedgerows
