Deposit return scheme for reusable items

In many places around Europe you pay a deposit every time you buy something in a glass or plastic bottle, then get that money back once the empty bottle is returned. Not only is this a deterrant to littering, any bottles that are littered are collected by people and returned for the deposit.

There is a lot of solid evidence that this reduces the amount of littering for the items for which there is a deposit.
